With the election three weeks away, many voters are just now tuning in and may be overwhelmed by all the choices. Sample "Dear Friend" Email

Dear Friends,

I am supporting the Vibrant Newton endorsed candidates for City Council and invite you to join me.

These candidates know how to get things done. They will be leaders in moving our city forward, advocating for:
  • Climate action and sustainable development.
  • Housing choices to make Newton more affordable for young families, city workers, and older residents ready to downsize.
  • More homes near shops and restaurants to help our local businesses and keep our villages vibrant.
  • Mixed residential and commercial development to strengthen our tax base and support excellent schools and city services.

There are only a few contested city council races this year. Here’s info on the candidates in these races.

At Large – You can vote for all 3 of these candidates, no matter where you live in Newton:

Cyrus Dahmubed, at-large from Ward 4, brings new ideas and the perspective of a younger generation to the most pressing issues in the city. He grew up in Auburndale, graduated from Harvard, and is an architect and urban designer. He’ll bring city planning experience the City Council sorely needs. He’s running to protect the homes and small businesses that anchor our neighborhoods and to invest in public transportation, schools, and sustainability. He will focus on smart, community-centered solutions and believes Newton can grow without losing what makes it special.

Josh Krintzman, at-large from Ward 4, has served on the Council for 8 years including 4 years as chair of the Program and Services Committee. He has been an advocate for Newton’s parks and recreation fields. He believes that reasonable and appropriate development is essential for building a fiscally sustainable future, as a diverse, inclusive and accessible community.

Sean Roche, at-large from Ward 6, has been an advocate for transportation and housing issues for more than 25 years. He has worked for safer roads for cars and people and worked to expand the types of homes allowed in Newton to address both affordability and climate change. He understands that smart development choices are needed to improve the city’s finances to fund our schools and improve our infrastructure.

Please vote for all three candidates: both Cyrus and Josh in Ward 4 and Sean in Ward 6.

Ward Councilor Races – You must live in the Ward to vote in these races:

Garry Miller, for Ward 5, lives in Upper Falls. As a member of the Neighborhood Liaison Committee for Northland, he’s advocated for the community – most recently ensuring Northland would still run a shuttle when they tried to drop it. He’s a Software Engineer and Product Manager; skills that will help him to navigate the city’s bureaucracy for his constituents. He’ll be a strong advocate for diverse housing options and taking action on climate change.

Maria Scibelli Greenberg, for Ward 1, is an incumbent who has been successful in getting things done. Her highest priority has always been listening and responding to concerns as well as helping resolve city-related issues for her Ward 1 neighbors in Nonantum and Newton Corner. Recently she obtained funds for the Spears Park Community Garden, a first for the North-side of the city. The park has been hugely successful and now has a waiting list.

Please vote for Garry if you live in Ward 5 and Maria if you live in Ward 1.
