September 16 Update: Candidate JJ Kazakoff-Eigen drops out of Ward 1 City Council race August 8 Update: City councilors Rick Lipof (Ward 8 at-large) and Alan Lobovits (Ward 6 at-large) have withdrawn their candidacies for City Council. The post and table below were updated accordingly. We now know who is running for the 24 seats of Newton's City Council. 16 of the seats are for councilors at large (two per ward) and 8 are for ward councilors (1 per ward). This year, 3 races are contested. As a reminder, all voters can vote for two at-large candidates from each ward, regardless of their ward. As for ward councilors, voters will vote only for the ward councilor in their ward. Vibrant Newton is going to endorse city council candidates who champion a sustainable and vibrant community where people from all backgrounds can live, work, and learn together. We will be supporting committed, forward-looking leaders who share our values. We will send a Candidate Questionnaire to all candidates in the beginning of August. The endorsement will be based on their record and their responses to the questionnaire. We will announce our endorsements on the Vibrant Newton website and on social media. Feeling excited about the elections and want to do more? Consider actively helping us elect great city councilors.
And don't forget to mark your calendar to vote on the November 4, 2025 election! Comments are closed.
